How to Care for Your Football: Inflation, Cleaning and Storage
Simple habits that keep your football performing for longer — how to inflate it, clean it after play and store it properly.
A good football rewards a little care. These simple habits help it keep its shape, bounce and grip for longer.
Inflating your ball
- Moisten the pump needle before inserting it — this protects the valve.
- Insert the needle straight and gently; never force it.
- Inflate gradually and check firmness by hand. The recommended pressure is usually printed near the valve.
- Don't over-inflate — it strains the seams and changes how the ball plays.
Cleaning after play
Wipe off mud and grass with a damp cloth and mild soap if needed. Avoid harsh chemicals, and never put the ball in a washing machine.
Drying and storage
- Let the ball dry naturally at room temperature — not next to a heater or in direct sun.
- Store it somewhere cool and dry.
- Don't sit or stand on the ball; it can distort its shape.
